Trash Collection Cost – New Contract

Trash Collection Cost – New Contract

Following 7 years of a trash collection contract that originally began with Advanced Disposal, which allowed residents to benefit from low rates during that time, the contract ended at the end of 2022.

Council was required to seek bids for a new contract that would begin in 2023.

Be aware that Council does not set the price of collection. It can only review the submitted bids and award the contract to the lowest responsible bidder that meets the bid specifications. West Easton does not make money from collection costs. The amount paid by residents is passed through to the trash hauler.

Since the Covid pandemic that began in 2019, trash collection saw significant price increases on local communities who sought new contracts. Many communities saw cost of trash collection increase by 100 percent, or more.

Four bid packets were returned to the Borough for opening and review.

Two packets declared that “no bid” was submitted.

Of the remaining two packets, LMR Disposal submitted a bid that would have resulted in a quarterly cost of $100 for each household. Mascaro & Sons submitted a bid that amounted to a quarterly cost of $108 for each household.

Regrettably, due to a “fatal flaw” in the submitted bid from LMR, in which the bond requirement was not met, Council had to reject their bid, under the advisement of our Solicitor.

Mascaro & Sons was awarded the 5-year contract, with an optional 2-year extension, should the Borough decide to invoke that option after the initial 5 years of service.
